How (Not) to Build in a Protected Landscape Area

 

Through a panel discussion with invited experts followed by an open audience debate, we will explore the challenges of contemporary architecture and development in the landscape of the Orlické Mountains. The discussion will address the ways people use and shape the landscape, the impact of interventions—both urban and non-urban—and the settlement patterns that have evolved over time and continue to influence protected natural areas. Together, we aim to explore new approaches to living and building in the landscape that respect its valuable ecosystems and encourage forms of architecture that are environmentally and culturally sensitive. Among the questions we will consider are: What should we build in a Protected Landscape Area (PLA), and how should we build it? What opportunities exist for the sustainable management of tourism? Is the current legislative framework sufficient to guide future development, or are new approaches needed to foster more thoughtful architecture and urban planning in protected landscapes?
