Stone in the Window, Bára Mrázková & Tereza Velíková / Jan Soumar / Tomáš Hrubiš + Martin Čech

The exhibition at the SCHULE Gallery loosely builds on Barbora Mrázková's artistic research, which explores the concept of the algorithmic image in relation to technological infrastructure while also examining the material dimension of digital media that makes such images possible. The exhibition is inspired by a three-part podcast that serves as its conceptual point of departure. Hornina, nerost, minerál, kámen The project follows the complex journey of a single mineral and its transformation into a specific electronic component. In all its complexity, this story can be understood as a metaphor for the mechanisms of global capitalism, while also offering a lens through which to examine—with a degree of irony—our deeply ingrained logic of consumption. The ease with which we consume and engage with digital images and media stands in striking contrast to our aspirations to live in harmony with nature, and to our often naïve assumptions about how natural resources are extracted, processed, and transformed into the technologies we use every day.

An important contributor to the exhibition is Jan Soumar, who studied geology at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. He currently teaches applied petrology for sculpture conservation students at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. His work focuses on making mineralogy accessible through engaging, experience-based educational programmes, and he also translates specialist scientific texts.

Tomáš Hrubiš (b. 1984) is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts (FaVU), a painter, art educator, and avant-garde composer. Coming from a family of organists, he explored this musical heritage in his latest album, Prismatic, where he masterfully combines the sound of church organs with synthetic soundscapes. His earlier albums, Tlecí doba and Raport, are also noteworthy for their innovative use of prepared piano as the central instrument. Tomáš Hrubiš will be joined by the acclaimed Brno-based drummer Martin Čech, known for his work with bands such as Lesní zvěř, Ensoi, and Hrubá Hudba.

The exhibition is accompanied by a programme of workshops and lectures designed for schools, children, and adult audiences.
