Tomáš Hrubiš a Martin Čech, PRISMATIC

 

Composer, pianist, and visual artist Tomáš Hrubiš (b. 1984) creates instrumental music that oscillates between melancholic, psychedelic atmospheres and moments of raw expressive intensity. His work combines electroacoustic sounds—including prepared piano, organ, and synthesizer—with influences drawn from minimalist, experimental, and ambient music. Rather than conventional concerts, his performances unfold as immersive musical narratives, carefully shaped into a single dynamic whole. Tomáš Hrubiš has released three critically acclaimed solo albums on the Polí5 label: Tlecí doba (2016), Raport (2017) a Prismatic (2022). Spolupracoval například s producentem Tomášem Vtípilem (DG 307, Načeva apod.), Jiřím Jelínkem, saxofonistou někdejších Psích vojáků nebo s bubeníkem Martinem Čechem (Hrubá hudba, Lesní zvěř, Ensoi apod.)

On Prismatic, Hrubiš departs from the piano—the dominant instrument on his previous recordings—and instead builds his third album around the unusual combination of organ, analogue synthesizer, and drums. With this work, he seeks to redefine his relationship with the organ, an instrument that has been part of his family's heritage for generations, placing its distinctive sound in a new context. Rather than emphasizing its traditional sacred associations, Hrubiš uses repetitive motifs and expansive synthesizer drones to create a meditative, hypnotic atmosphere. The rhythmic interventions of drummer Martin Čech, woven throughout the album, reinforce its underlying sense of ritual and ceremony.
