Shadows of the Landscape
It all began with the childhood dream of two friends brought together by their shared love of the films and books of Middle-earth. After five years of writing, filming, and post-production, Svatoslav Hofman (cinematography and set design) and Jaroslav Kejzlar (writer and director), together with their team, transformed that dream into Shadows of the Landscape—a short film inspired by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Filmed between 2018 and 2019, the production involved dozens of cast and crew members and took place in the Czech Hobbiton as well as in the forests and meadows surrounding the beautiful village of Šediviny. The Shadows of the Landscape Community Evening, to which we warmly invite you, will feature both the film itself and a behind-the-scenes documentary about its making. The event is dedicated to the people of Šediviny and the surrounding area, whose generosity, patience, and support made the project possible.
The fan-made film Shadows of the Landscape, featuring the hobbit heroine Kordulka (Dominika Dufková), is set in the period between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Drawing on several of J.R.R. Tolkien's books—as well as details from his writings that have never before been adapted for the screen—it offers an original story rooted in the world of Middle-earth. The film explores the diversity of hobbit characters, their deep mistrust of everything unfamiliar, and their longing for forbidden adventure. Lurking at the edge of the Shire, mysterious beings cast a shadow over this quiet world, hinting at dangers gathering beyond its borders.
