Stuart Ringholt, Anger Workshop
Stuart Ringholt was born in 1971 in Perth and lives and works in Melbourne. His practice encompasses performance, video, drawing, collage, sculpture, and collaborative workshops. Ringholt's interdisciplinary practice consistently engages with the social environment — with states of consciousness, the nature of perception, interpersonal relationships, and the tension between individualism and collective well-being.
Ringholt described his path to art in the book Hashish Psychosis: What It’s Like to Be Mentally Ill and Recover (2006), drawn from his own personal crisis. This experience fundamentally shaped his approach to making work: the artist asks whether art can be practical on an interpersonal level and whether it can genuinely improve his life and the lives of others.
Among his most significant international presentations are dOCUMENTA 13 in Kassel (2012), the Singapore Biennale (2011), and the Sydney Biennale (2008). In 2025, he presented his first solo exhibition in Italy — Verso Pictures v Quartz Studio v Turíně.
Anger Workshops (2008, ongoing) is one of his key participatory projects: in a controlled environment, participants experience three minutes of anger followed by three minutes of embracing — a compressed time that condenses an intense lived experience into just six minutes. The workshop operates as a speculative space in which the body and emotions serve as material for knowledge and collective transformation.
The workshop at Schule will take place in collaboration with students from the Faculty of Education at the University of Hradec Králové, offering a space for shared experience at the intersection of art, pedagogy, and everyday life.
