Winter Works presents a selection of works by contemporary artists of different generations alongside anonymous artefacts, all connected through the distinctive textile medium of embroidery. The exhibition's curator, Markéta Vinglerová, found inspiration for this theme in the history of the SCHULE Cultural Centre itself. Housed in a former Sudeten German school in the small village of Šediviny in the Orlické Mountains, the building has its own historical connection to the teaching of embroidery. Historically associated with femininity, craftsmanship, women's education, and domestic art, embroidery has recently re-emerged as a significant medium within contemporary artistic practice. The exhibition brings together delicate, traditionally embroidered textile works and samplers with experimental approaches to both technique and material, placing them within the context of a landscape whose seasonal rhythms once shaped the daily work and lives of its inhabitants.
